According to Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the global offshore wind industry installed over 6 GW of new capacity in 2020, and 50.45% of the new capacity was contributed by China with over 3 GW, more than twice as much as the nearly 1.5 GW installed in the Netherlands. China has now surpassed Germany, and the UK remains in the top position.

Anchor Ship Partners plans LNG carrier construction to lease to Nippon Yusen Kaisha, Mitsui OSK Lines, and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha before then ordering ships powered with new fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia. It aims to provide double-digit annual yields, largely from lease income, and to operate the fund for 15 years, reviewed under Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank's oversight to assess whether it is having a positive environmental impact.

Maersk announced plans for a carbon neutral methanol-fueled container ship to operate by 2023 alongside an investment in CO₂-free green ammonia. While many of the world’s largest liners have made some LNG-powered investments, particularly CMA CGM - the biggest adherent LNG, with 32 of its ships set to be powered by LNG by Q4 2022 - Maersk has avoided LNG investment..

Clarkson Research Services reports that 27% of all ships gross tonnage on order are intended to be LNG-fuel capable.
