Aptera Moves Towards Commercially Available Solar-Powered Vehicles

 

 

Aptera Motors, a California company, is now mass producing a 3-wheeled electric vehicle covered in 3.2m2 of solar cells, which could provide enough energy to drive about 65km on a clear day. Expected to retail for US$25,900 following safety tests and roadworthiness certification, Aptera claims their model is 13 times more efficient than a gas-powered pickup truck and four times more efficient than the average electric vehicle, able to travel 240km after just 15 minutes at an ordinary charging station.
