Dutch brewer Heineken has released plans to decarbonize its full value chain by 2040, cutting emissions by 30% across its entire value chain from a 2018 baseline. Its 2040 commitments make it the first global brewer to commit to full carbon neutrality.

Posted on - 2021-04-21Trafigura is co-sponsoring an fuel-flexible two-stroke ammonia-powered engine with MAN Energy Solutions, expected to be commercially available by 2024. It will be followed by a retrofit package to make existing maritime vessels capable of running on ammonia by 2025.
In March, 2021, Hartmann from Germany and Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping also made deals with MAN to press ahead with ammonia-fueled ships, while Malaysia’s top shipping line, MISC, is developing an ammonia-fueled tanker with MAN, as well.

However, the ocean around the equator has already become too hot for many species to survive. The global pattern is rapidly changing, and as species flee to cooler water towards the poles, it’s likely to have profound implications for marine ecosystems and human livelihoods. When the same thing happened 252 million years ago, 90 per cent of all marine species died.
