Trafigura is co-sponsoring an fuel-flexible two-stroke ammonia-powered engine with MAN Energy Solutions, expected to be commercially available by 2024. It will be followed by a retrofit package to make existing maritime vessels capable of running on ammonia by 2025.
In March, 2021, Hartmann from Germany and Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping also made deals with MAN to press ahead with ammonia-fueled ships, while Malaysia’s top shipping line, MISC, is developing an ammonia-fueled tanker with MAN, as well.
