Goundar Shipping, embroiled in an international human trafficking/labour violation scandal over the last few months involving a number of Filipino employees, made announcements it will be ceasing operations from May 17th onward. The social media post announcing this was deleted shortly after, and it is unclear as to the findings of the ongoing investigation, nor the bearing this investigation had on the decision to cease operations.
Additionally, in the midst of the current COVID-19 outbreak on Viti Levu, domestic passenger shipping is currently suspended, which is hampering the profitability of domestic shipping operators, as well.
