Ambition Must Uniformly Increase to Stave off Climate Catastrophe

Governments must halve emissions by 2030 if they intend the Earth to stay within the 1.5C "safe" threshold, and the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, called it a red alert for our planet. Current proposals are insufficient, and new targets need to be strengthened. Nations such as Australia are judged to have offered no substantial improvement on previous proposals, and they join other nations doing little or nothing in contributing up to 15% of global emissions.

Meanwhile, the EU, Nepal, Argentina, and the UK are strengthening targets, with Britain's Climate Change Act setting ambitions into law, overseen by an independent body on its way to a 2050 Net Zero target.
