Quarantine Costs in New Zealand to be Borne by Shipping Companies

The Port of Auckland says shipping companies are responsible for bearing the costs of isolating international crew as it mandates new quarantine requirements for transfers aboard ships. Currently, crew arriving in New Zealand are not required to do 14 days in isolation and are only tested for Covid-19 if they have to spend at least three days in a managed isolation facility while they wait to board their ship. In light of additional Covid-19 cases, involving a local marine engineer and two colleagues, a new rule to isolate for 14 days and return negative tests was instated.
