EVs Take Market Share Lead in Norway

Electric cars rise to record 54% market share in Norway

Electric vehicles have achieved a 54% market share in Norway - the first country in the world where electric car sales outstrip fossil fuel-powered vehicles. This has been achieved in large part through a decision to fully exempt electric vehicles from taxes imposed on internal combustion engine vehicles.

Volkswagen has replaced Tesla as the top battery-vehicle producer in the market, as well. EV market share is up from 42.4% in 2019 and from a mere 1% of the overall market a decade ago, as per the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV).
