Logistics Constrains Hamper Tongan Agricultural Exports

Ten containers of watermelons scheduled to be shipped to New Zealand on Dec. 5th following granting of a temporary export permit were delayed, as transport the melons to the wharf in Tongatapu did not arrive to the growers' farms to pick up the produce. It is unclear why the trucks did not arrive, but the ship left to New Zealand without the melons.

Individual farmers were left with containers' worth of watermelons, unable to secure transport to market, resulting in thousands of dollars of losses for the missed shipment.
