Generous EV Subsidies in Germany and France Bring Renault ZOE Price Close to Zero

Autohaus Koenig, a dealership chain with more than 50 locations across Germany, is now leasing the battery-powered Renault Zoe through a plan entirely covered by subsidies. Germany and France boosted electric vehicle incentives to the most favorable in the world. Over 3,000 people have inquired and 300 have signed contracts on EVs in the last 20 days.

In France, demand for gasoline vehicles has plunged, but the Renault ZOE sales are set to double. In the Netherlands, Amsterdam is banning non-electric cars from 2030 on, with a fund of EURO10m to support EV purchases depleted in eight days. Germany's subsidies of as much as EURO9,000 per electric vehicle have boosted sales, as well, and around Europe, the COVID-19 response is being utilized to decarbonize transport going forward.
