In an address to Fiji's Parliament on the 7th of August, 2019, the Attorney General and Minister of Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, made specific mention of the Pacific Blue Shipping Partnership being developed with guidance and leadership by MCST and its partners:

"And Mr Speaker, Sir we are leading, with the Marshall Islands, the Pacific Blue Shipping Partnership that is working on a blended and innovative finance structure to support the decarbonisation of domestic marine transportation fleets and facilities in Fiji and across the region. This means replacing inter-island ships with more efficient hybrid ships, thereby reducing fuel costs and emissions."

Local firefighters are describing electric vehicle battery fires as the fires that just don't go out, with risk of reignition several days after it's put out.

Firefighters are learning it takes nearly 10 times more water to put out an electric vehicle battery fire compared with a petrol or diesel car.

Fire and Emergency is gearing up for the influx of electric vehicles, or EVs, expected to reach our shores in the coming years when the Clean Car Subsidy takes effect from 2021.

UNCTAD’s liner shipping connectivity index (LSCI) for 2019 is out, showing countries that have improved or worsened their positions in maritime transport networks.

China has retained its lead as the country best connected to others by sea, the index shows. The country’s LSCI has increased by 51% since 2006.

“A country’s position in the global container shipping network – its connectivity – is an important determinant of its trade costs and competitiveness,” said UNCTAD’s chief of trade logistics, Jan Hoffmann.
