They scream, they whistle, they growl, they roar. Even through the blameless night an occasional flight thunders in - freight, emergencies and the rich.
Then as curfew nears its end, a low mumble builds above the cloud layer. We're up here, they threaten the sleeping world, waiting. On strike of six they pounce, streaming rapid-fire through the languid morning, waking babes, rattling windows, shattering dreams.
Posted on - 2019-09-01The governor of Madang, Peter Yama, says a slurry spillage from the Ramu nickel mine is the worst environmental disaster in Papua New Guinea.
This came after a spill into a creek turned the sea red which is a threat to marine life as well as local villagers.
The Post Courier reported Mr Yama has called on the government to immediately close down the Chinese government-owned and operated Ramu nickel project because of its poor environmental record.

On 06 August, 2019, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MoIT) held the 2nd Stakeholder Workshop on the Electrification of the Transport Sector: Data Audits and Strategies and the Potential for Electric Vehicles in Suva, Fiji. The project is funded by the UNESCAP and implemented in partnership with GGGI and MoIT.
