The United States' top official to the Pacific is in Palau this week to break ground on a US grant funded infrastructure initiative.The Interior Assistant Secretary for Insular Affairs, Doug Domenech, and Palau President, Tommy Remengesau Jr, opened the $US9.2-million construction of roading and port improvements made possible under the recently renewed Palau Compact Review Agreement.

The report, titled ‘Trade 2.0: How Startups are driving the next generation of maritime trade’, was conducted for Inmarsat by UK GovTech venture firm and research house, PUBLIC. It reveals that the maritime sector at an inflection point; open to big data, blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, at a time when emissions regulations are pushing it away from the fossil fuels that have framed its business model.

It was the summer of 1994. A few days earlier, he had collected a generous haul, 20 buckets of the thin-shelled, cold-water clams, which burrow a foot deep into the sand along a 13-mile stretch of beach near Barra del Chuy, just south of the Brazilian border. Aguero had been digging up these clams since childhood, a livelihood passed on for generations along these shores.
