Providing an action research-oriented approach toward assessing and understanding the composition of the land transport sector in Fiji, particularly as it operates in the Greater Suva Area. Land transport perceptions, procedure and planning : a Fiji urban case study ranges from a focused analysis upon daily commuter behavior of students and employees in and around the city, to the macroeconomic contributions to, and impacts upon, the nation made by the transport sector.

Starting in China, where the pandemic was mainly concentrated in the opening months of the year and the first country to lift lockdown restrictions, Cosco Shipping Ports — part of the China Cosco Shipping Corp conglomerate — reported an 11% drop in revenue for the first quarter of the year, while total throughput contracted by 4.4%

It was in Greater China that the company saw the biggest effect of the health crisis, with handling volume down 6.6% to 20.7m teu in the opening months. In comparison, the volume at its ports elsewhere around the world was up 3% to 6.8m teu year on year.

Extracting accurate insights from data is fundamental to enhancing decision-making in the shipping industry. Doing so effectively enables operators and charterers to optimize fuel consumption by adjusting operational factors such as speed and trim to reflect different voyage conditions in real time. However, as beneficial and accurate as complete data sets and advanced modelling can be, the reverse also holds true, patchy data sets or inaccurate models can result in sub-optimal decisions.
